Londa Woodys book, All In A Days Work: Historic General
Stores of Macon and Surrounding North Carolina Counties, has won
the prestigious Willie Parker Peace Award given by the North Carolina
Society of Historians.
The 60th annual meeting of historians was held in Hickory at the Park
Inn Convention Center.
The committee had this to say about Woodys book: This is
a wonderful history book! We thoroughly enjoyed reading about so many
different types and styles of buildings that were intricate parts of
community life in Ms. Woodys areas of coverage. The text is meticulous
and thorough, and it is evident that she has invested many long, exhaustive
hours in research.
In keeping with the traditions of history, All In A Days Work
tells about the entrepreneurial families who founded and nurtured businesses,
a number of which are still thriving.
Woodys research for this body of work led to interviews with proprietors
and family members associated with each mercantile. The result is this
engrossing tapestry of Western North Carolinas colorful past and
present.
Woody has been writing for almost 20 years. Her work has appeared in
Guideposts, Angels On Earth and the 1995 poetry anthology,
Perspectives. She was a guest writer for Mountain Ideals
magazine in 1999. She is currently editing her first novel, Rose
Upon The Sea, and starting a new project in the fall titled, Dancing
On The Wood Box.
All In A Days Work is available for $10 from local general
