Charles Morgan Starnes is the newest member of the Haywood Community
College Board of Trustees.
Starnes retired from public education with 37 years in the field. He
was principal at Tuscola High School from 1972 until 1995. Previous
to that, he worked for Buncombe and Lincoln county school districts.
Originally from Asheville, Starnes received a masters in education from
Appalachian State University and received a six-year degree in administration
from Western Carolina University.
Starnes serves on the Haywood County Community Foundation Board and
also on the Advisory Board for Home Health Care for the Haywood Regional
Medical Center. He is one of the founding members and past director
of Folkmoot U.S.A. He is past-president of the Waynesville Rotary Club.
Starnes is a member of Cornerstone Christian Fellowship.
Two current trustees were also re-appointed to the Board. James Ferguson
was re-appointed by the Haywood County Board of Education and Peggy
Melville was re-appointed by Gov. Mike Easley.
Ferguson, a local farmer and owner of Fergusons Supply in Fines
Creek, has served on the HCC Board of Trustees for over 14 years. Melville,
vice-president of Clyde Savings Bank, has been on the board over 2-1/2
years. All HCC trustees are appointed for a four-year term.
