Leadership Haywood needs applicants

Applications are now being accepted for Leadership Haywood 17, a community leadership development program specifically designed for people who care about the future of Haywood County. Leadership Haywood is one of UNC Asheville’s Leadership Programs. The program includes an all-day opening retreat on Feb. 8, 2005, followed by seven half-day sessions through May on topics covering governance, health and environment, the arts and non-profit organizations, economic development, history and education. Western holds financial aid workshops

The Talent Search Program at Western Carolina University will hold a series of workshops to help high school students and their parents learn the details of applying for federal financial aid for college. The free workshops, scheduled for locations in Cherokee, Graham, Jackson, Macon and Swain counties, and on the Qualla Boundary, will include a presentation on the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), which is the form that most colleges require from students, said Todd Murdock, Talent Search director at Western. Workshops will be held at these locations and times: Swain County High School, 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6; Cherokee High School, 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11; Nantahala School, Wednesday, Jan. 12, time to be announced. 828.227.7137.
