Wilmot Baptist Church won “Best in Show” and $200. Honorable mention was a tie between Yesterday’s Tree and Heritage Christian Academy. Downtown windows and businesses were judged during the Holiday Open House this year. Judges walked around downtown to view the numerous beautifully decorated windows. First place went to Annie’s Naturally Bakery and $100. The Nichols House came in second and Jackson General in third. Thank you to all the merchants for participating in this contest and we look forward to seeing more beautiful windows next year! ••• Mast General Store has invited Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation’s volunteers back again to wrap holiday gifts at the store in Waynesville. She brings more than six years banking experience to her new role. ••• For the fourth straight year, Drake Software of Franklin won top honors for Professional Tax Preparation and Website Builders for Accounting Firms in The CPA Technology Advisor’s recently announced 2010 Readers’ Choice Awards. ••• Plastic surgeon Dr. Laurence Arnold has joined the medical staff of Haywood Regional Medical Center. Dr. Arnold is a graduate of Loyola University, Stritch School of Medicine. He completed his residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and his fellowship at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. He is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Arnold brings more than 15 years of experience in the area of plastic and reconstructive surgery of the face, breast and body, for adults and children. He specializes in breast reconstruction after mastectomy. ••• BI-LO Charities donated $49,700 to Asheville-area organizations thanks to funds raised during the 26th annual BI-LO Charity Classic Golf Tournament, which took place last June. Representatives from 15 local charities came together to receive nearly $50,000 worth of grants from BI-LO Charities. ••• When the idea of wearing a Bra for the Cause to heighten awareness about breast cancer was proposed to some of the influential men and women in the community, Chris Brouwer, Financial Advisor for Edward Jones, immediately stepped up and agreed to wear a decorated bra in the Bras for the Cause Walkathon that was held on July 10. In fact, he came up with the idea to create a reward poster to help raise funds to pay off the digital mammography system at Angel Medical Center. Through his efforts, Chris raised $2,481 in donations from colleagues, friends, and family and was recognized as the top fundraiser in a presentation at a meeting of the Franklin Kiwanis Club. ••• Dr. Graeme Potter of Sylva has received a Patients’ Choice award that is posted in her online profile on Vitals.com, a website providing physician ratings.
