August 1997 -- GSMNP gathers information on feasibility of
elk release.
October 2000 -- Finding of no significant impact
from elk study clears way for release in Cataloochee Valley.
Jan. 22-24 -- 26 elk captured from Land Between the Lakes,
Ken.
Feb. 1 -- Elk transported from LBL to Cataloochee and released
into holding pen.
April -- Planned elk release from holding pen into the park.
