Maggie Valley is making plans to annex two areas that could increase its size
by 17 percent and its population by 72 percent.
An annexation schedule adopted last week by town aldermen sets June
30 as the date for the new areas to become a part of the town.
Currently Maggie Valleys population is 643 residents, which will
increase to 1,107 residents after the annexation. A large percentage
of Maggie Valley residents are seasonal, so the actual year-round impact
will be smaller than the population increase might suggest.
The areas to be annexed include a 60-acre tract north of Soco Road on
both sides of Rich Cove Road; and a 122-acre tract on the south side
of Soco Road that includes the Campbell Creek area and along Johnson
Branch Road. Maps and other information are available for review at
town hall.
Other key dates in the annexation schedule:
April 3 - Public information meeting.
April 17 - Public hearing.
May 8 - Adopt ordinance.
June 30 - Date of annexation.
