Macon County commissioners decided Monday to impose a hiring freeze and discontinue
payment of certain travel expenditures as a result of the state budget
crisis.
The boards vote follows County Manager Sam Greenwoods recommendations.
No new employees will be hired, and all vacant positions will remain
unfilled, Greenwood said. Over-night travel, equipment and non-essential
supplies will only be purchased with Greenwoods OK.
State mandated increases and the states reimbursement withholding
could take $650,000 from Macon County. That would equal a 2-cent property
tax increase.
