SMN

The Cradle of Forestry is offering a seminar on air quality, Saturday, Aug. 11, 1:00-4:30 p.m. The afternoon will include informative programs from the region’s leaders in air quality management, issues and action. There will also be a variety of information, booths and educational videos to view, reflecting some of the materials available on the topic of air quality.

There will be three speakers participating in the afternoon session: Andrew Goldberg, Bill Jackson and Crystal Pace. Air quality issues in Western North Carolina are regional in nature and Goldberg, Program Coordinator for Mountain Air Quality Coalition, will address this and the specific attributes of and possible solutions to poor air quality in the region. Jackson, air quality specialist for the National Forests in North Carolina, will share the science of air quality on a lay person’s level. He will then take participants on a walk to see symptoms of poor air quality on vegetation. This portion of the program will be from 2-3:30 p.m. and is open to all Cradle of Forestry visitors.

Pace, who works at the N.C. Division of Air Quality in the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, will address ozone forecasting and Ozone Action Day.
