Jackson County Arts Council awards grants

art grantsSix Western North Carolina artists have received funding from the Jackson County Arts Council to support their artistic endeavors. Regional Artist Project grants support professional artists at any stage in their careers to pursue projects that further their artistic development.

The grant awards are funded by the North Carolina Arts Council and by a regional consortium of local arts councils. Jackson County Arts Council took the lead in this year’s Regional Artist Project Grant consortium that included Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood and Jackson counties.

Grant recipients include Frank Brannon, art studio equipment and supplies for SpeakEasy Press; Joseph Fortner, recording studio session for his band, Soldier’s Heart; Kjelsty Hanson, marketing materials for the performing group Whimzik; Jon Jicha, art studio supplies for a new series of paintings; Amy Putansu, specialized hand-weaving equipment; and Myriah Strivelli, print studio equipment and supplies.

The Jackson County Arts Council is the designated county partner of the North Carolina Arts Council. The JCAC aims to promote individual artists, foster appreciation of the arts, provide art education and inspire creativity throughout Jackson County.
