The area is home to an elk herd frequently seen in the fields along the road and attracts a large number of sightseers. Volunteers will educate the public about wildlife viewing etiquette and safety. Volunteers will also tell visitors about the cultural heritage sites at the Mountain Farm Museum and natural resources along the Oconaluftee River Trail.
Volunteers are needed from mid-April through mid-November.
A mandatory volunteer training will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 4, at the Oconaluftee Visitor Center. 828.497.1914.
