Located in Haywood County, Cataloochee is a remote area that has become a year-round destination since elk were reintroduced there in 2001. Volunteers will educate visitors about the area’s natural and cultural resources and inform them about park regulations. When elk are present, volunteers will focus on traffic management and educating visitors about elk.
Volunteers are in particular demand for Saturday and Sunday afternoons, and evenings on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. They typically work at least one four-hour shift per week May through mid-November, traveling by ATV, bicycle or foot.
