Youth National Fly Fishing Championship held in Cherokee

out flyfishThis year’s U.S. Youth Fly Fishing Championships were held in Cherokee last weekend, with venues including the catch-and-release waters in Cherokee, the Upper Nantahala and the Lower Nantahala.

This marks the first time the event has been in the Southeast. Hundreds of spectators from across the U.S. came to the competition.

There were 20 competitors. The top 10 finishers were awarded a spot on the U.S. Youth Fly Fishing Team and have the opportunity to qualify for the youth travel team that will travel to Ireland in 2013 for the World Youth Fly Fishing Championships.
