Take to the tees on some championship courses in the WNC mountains where the drive’s come with scenic views

Western North Carolina boasts a strong golf history. Some of the region’s first courses were located in the on the Cashiers-Highlands plateau.

Local members’ only courses pack star power with Arnold Palmer’s 18 at Balsam Mountain Preserve, Jack Nicklaus’s course at The Cliffs at Walnut Cove in Asheville and soon Tiger Woods’ first U.S. golf course to be located at The Cliffs at High Carolina also near Asheville. Many courses have been named to best of lists throughout the golf world.

Several courses offer amenities from gourmet dining to lake swimming and clay court tennis, while others simply fill the need to get in a round in the mountains’ scenic setting. Below is a listing of selected courses, which are open to public play. Other courses are open to club members’ guests.
