Fall in the Mountains

A number of festivals and special events are planned this fall. Here ‘s a look at some of the events.

Oct. 6-10 - The 97th annual Cherokee Indian Fair takes place over a five-day period at the Cherokee Indian Fairgrounds in Cherokee. The fair kicks off with a parade at 4 p.m. Oct. 6. The event continues 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Oct. 7 and 8 and 10 a.m.-11 p.m. Oct. 9 and 10. Fair includes traditional Cherokee arts and crafts, food and entertainment. Oct. 9 and 10 - Cashiers' Leaf Festival takes place 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Village Green in the heart of Cashiers. Event includes home tours, craft demonstrations, entertainment and the Enchanted Village  for children. Children ‘s activities include pumpkin carving and face painting. Oct. 10 - The Maple Leaf Festival takes place on Main Street in Whittier. Event features area artists and crafters, entertainment and food. Call 828.497.2393 for more information.

Oct. 10 - The Church Street Art and Craft Show takes place 10 a.m.-5 p.m. in downtown Waynesville. Over 100 artists will take part. The event also includes food vendors and music.

Oct. 10 - Fall Harvest Craft Festival takes place 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Old Mill 1886 in Cherokee. Free admission. Event includes artist demonstrations and food. For more information, call 828.497.6536.

Oct. 15-19 - Vietnam Moving Wall will be at Dillsboro ‘s Monteith Park, with a Memorial Service at noon Oct. 17 and music throughout the day that same day. For more information, call 828.507.5108.

Oct. 15-17 - 17th annual Smoky Mountain Fall Art and Craft Festival takes place 10 a.m.-5 p.m. daily at the Macon County Fairgrounds. Event includes music, craft demonstrations and more than 80 juried artisans. For information, call Laurie Keneipp 828.524.6630.

Oct. 16-18 - 20th annual Leaf Lookers Gemboree takes place at Macon County Community Building. Times are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Oct. 16 and 17 and noon-5 p.m. Oct. 18. Admission is $2 for adults and free for children 12 and younger. For more information, call 800.336.7829.

Oct. 17 - Annual Apple Harvest Festival takes place 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Main Street in Waynesville. A portion of Main Street from the courthouse to the U.S. 276 interchange will be closed. The event includes arts and crafts, music and food. For more information, call 828.456.3021.

Oct. 23 and 24 - 13th annual Pumpkin Fest takes place in downtown Franklin. Event includes hayrides and a street festival along Main Street. For information, call 828.524.2516. Admission is free.

Oct. 24 - Artists will take part in Colorfest Art of the Blue Ridge on Main Street in Sylva. For more information, call 828.631.4587.

Nov. 7 - WNC Pottery Festival takes place 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Front Street and portions of Church Street in Dillsboro. Event includes more than 40 booths. Admission is $2 admission. Nov. 27-28 - 4th annual Mistletoe Magic Arts & Craft Show takes place 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Nov. 27 and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 28 at the Macon County Community Building. Event includes 70 local artisans. Call 828.524.6630 for more information.
