Monteith, who passed away in March, served as a Swain County commissioner for nearly 20 years and was actively involved in a number of important projects in the community, including the park on Old N.C. 288. Monteith’s wife Ellen, local and state politicians, family, and friends were all present at the dedication to honor his memory.
