Threat prompts Canton Middle evacuation

Haywood County Schools officials at Canton Middle School learned that a threatening message (bomb threat) was written on a restroom wall at school.

This threat does not apply to any other schools. School and law enforcement officials are working to determine the credibility of the threat. For precautionary purposes, students are being moved to another location. The evacuation site will be shared with parents as soon as students are safely re-located. Law enforcement officials and district administrators are working to assure student and staff safety.

The school will prepare and send a rapid notification message for students, parents and staff. All unauthorized individuals are asked to remain off campus until the campus has been cleared. Additional school or school district notifications will follow regarding the status of this event. School is not dismissed at this time. If the campus is cleared, students will return to school.  Parents may pick up students at the re-location area, when it is announced.
