Fatal stabbing in Hyder Mountain community

Jody Vance Jones, 26, of Clyde, has been charged with murdering his father Marion Jones and for attempting to murder his brother Hunter Jones. There is no bond at this time.

Haywood County deputies responded to a residence on Long Branch Road in the Hyder Mountain community around 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, in reference to an emergency stabbing. 

Sheriff’s deputies and emergency medical services responded to the call. Upon law enforcement’s arrival, deputies learned Hunter Jones was injured (stab wounds) Marion Jones was deceased and Jody Jones was still inside the residence. Hunter was transported to the hospital.

Jody Jones initially refused to exit the house. Shortly after deputies used verbal de-escalation measures, he exited the house and was arrested without incident.
