SRCA approves preliminary plans for $15 million facility

According to a press release, Shining Rock Classical Academy board of directors recently unanimous voted to accept the architectural designs and preliminary budget for a permanent school facility as presented by design-build partner, BC Construction Group (BCCG). In partnership with Shining Rock and BCCG, Performance CSD will be providing financial resources to fund and finance the project.

During the board discussion of the project, board Vice Chair Mike Mehaffey expressed that this project represented a unique opportunity for Shining Rock. Mehaffey stated, “I believe that this presentation represents the best chance for us to have long-term school in a great location.”

Head of School Joshua Morgan expressed how impressed he was regarding the scope and volume of work completed by BCCG.

“The amount of work that they have completed to reach this preliminary step is impressive.” Morgan added, “The floor plan that is being presented addresses what was asked of their design team from the meeting they conducted with our teachers after the letter of intent was signed earlier this year.”

The new building, which was said to be on the corner of U.S. 276 and Jule Nolan Drive, will be approximately 48,000 square feet and will be constructed on just over 13 acres with a total construction budget of $14.9 million. The facility will have a full-size gymnasium as well as outdoor instructional spaces on-site.

At the conclusion of the vote, board Chair Michelle Haynes said, “This is very exciting and provides our school with the space to grow and meet the needs of our community.”
