Time Moves Too Quickly

Time Moves Too Quickly

When you’re a kid all you want is for time to speed up. You want to get older and move out, see the world and live on your own. Then as an adult you realize how much you want time to slow down. We hate to admit it, but our parents were right, we want those youthful days back. I’m not a parent yet but I am an aunt, and let me tell you, the days really do go too fast.

Two nieces and a nephew later and it's a little unbeleivale I've already been an aunt for eight years. It feels like yesterday my first chunky little nephew was born and I was rushing home from college to see him in the hospital. Watching his personality grow and change and seeing the world from his point of view is a once in a lifetime experience. The first time you become an aunt is a feeling like no other. I always say how I don’t know if I can have kids because I don’t think I can love them more than my niece and nephews.

My oldest nephew is a buck wild ginger boy who is always up to no good, answers to “Monster” and is my bestie. My second nephew is quiet and reserved, keeps his toys in their original packaging and wants to snuggle all night. Recently, my sister added a girl to the crew and it’s a whole different experience from the wild baby boys to this little baby girl that is growing too fast. Compared to the boys she has a whole different personality, although I am sure the boys will influence her soon enough. She is already such a spitfire I know she’s going to give them a run for their money.

Having older siblings means getting nephews while you’re in college, still a kid yourself and now, I’m an adult and my baby sister is having babies. Meeting them all in different stages of my life brings such a different perspective because you watch them from different points of your own life.

Experiencing milestones with these tiny humans is something I can’t even put into words. These little people that I lived without for so long popped into my life and now I can’t imagine a world without them. I watch these little ones grow teeth, learn to crawl, learn to walk, and talk. Admittedly, I want to give them everything they want and spoil them and never let them grow up. Going home to visit and hearing little feet running down the hall absolutely screaming “Titi!! Titi!! Come play!!!” never gets old no matter how much I hear it.

They transition from a little newborn alien to a person with their own personality and facial features. I feel so grateful to get to love a human who loves you back and considers you a safe space. As much as I want time to slow down, I also can’t wait for the day when they can come to my house and I can take them out and let them get up to no good because that’s what all the best aunties are for. These little people light up my world in a way that I have never known, loving them as babies and watching them grow is a reminder every day that I would do anything for them. I can’t wait to see them take on the world one day, I know how unstoppable they are all going to be.
